In The Spotlight: Stream The Black Queen’s sophomore record, “Infinite Games”

The Black Queen, the alternative/electronic outfit featuring Greg Puciato (Dillinger Escape Plan), Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv/Puscifer) and Steven Alexander Ryan (Nine Inch Nails/A Perfect Circle technician), is back with their sophomore record Infinite Games. With that announcement, the band has also released a new video for the song “Your Move”.

“‘Your Move’ was one of the fastest songs to be written,” says Puciato. “The demo and lyrics for this song were completed on the flight back from India after playing there with Dillinger. We finished it in a few days a week or so later, sometime in December of last year. Lyrically it just touches on the intoxication of sharing intimacy with someone guarded while also knowing that it’s unsustainable, but wanting it not to be. The line ‘your move’ is a reference to the inevitable stalemate/playing chicken game that two people with vulnerability/permanence issues face after their initial phase reaches its limitation. Steve and I collaborated on the video.”

The Black Queen may be a far cry from vocalist Greg Puciato’s past work in Dillinger Escape Plan, the fact remains that he’s adept at fronting a band like this. If debut album Fever Daydream was any indication, the best songs are yet to come. If there’s one song to check out on Infinite Games, it’s likely “Thrown Into The Dark” – the darkly melodic song may just remind you of classic Depeche Mode and even The Cure, with a little IDM influence thrown in. Think Aphex Twin anr/or Boards Of Canada. A real winner.
