The first time I ever heard Deathwish screamo/post-hardcore outfit Loma Prieta, a friend showed me their album Dark Mountain. I was immediately hooked, and though for a while Last City was my favorite record from them, hearing the roar of “Fly By Night” to open the album was just incredible. And while the album flies by pretty fast, that means there’s little filler to be found.
I know this record is now a staple in my record collection, so stream the whole thing below and find out what the hype is about. They’ve got an excellent new record out (Self Portrait), but I’ll be damned if I.V. isn’t a killer place to start. It’s an exceptional record that is essentially controlled chaos in post-hardcore form.
