Homophobia Has No Place In The Metal Scene

With the recent news that two members of legendary progressive metal band Cynic are gay, most of the metal world is celebrating – it’s a watershed moment for a scene that has been notoriously not open to it until recently (notable exception: Rob Halford of Judas Priest).

So it’s only natural that someone would stick their foot in their mouth and manage to insult both the members of Cynic and users of headless guitars. The person in question is Vik Kuletski of Vik Guitars – and while I know next to nothing about his products, I can tell you that offending two icons (and people who are passionate about LGBT rights in general) of the metal scene isn’t a wise PR move. You can find some pictures (which have since been deleted) below.

Adam Getgood (ex-Red Seas Fire, Periphery) weighs in:

Obviously it’s very disappointing to see someone make statements like this in 2014. While we don’t personally have a viewpoint on LGBT people here, we can tell you one thing – we support human rights and equality for all. If LGBT people want to get married, go for it! It’s worked out awesome for us straight folks.

Equality in the metal scene is highly important. It doesn’t matter your orientation if you’re making compelling music – it doesn’t matter anywhere.

Side note: If you haven’t managed to check out Cynic’s new album “Kindly Bent To Free Us”, you definitely should. It’s a solid progressive rock album that demands repeated listens.
