Dream Awake, 2020
Once again, I have to thank Dreambound’s stellar YouTube channel for alerting me to yet another little-known, high-energy band, this time being Dream Awake. With a captivating introduction, I got quite the strong impression off the band’s single “Heritage,” originally released last June. I’m excited to dig in and hear the other four tracks off of their new EP Prosper!
Beginning with a fade-in riff, title track “Prosper” strings together as much melody as heaviness in the earlygoings. A hook that means business in the post-chorus is proof that the production cuts no corners, either. The breakdown vocals beg to “define my existence” before a guitar-laden outro seals the deal for the track.
While it’s been confirmed for a couple months that the band’s new album is finished with the recording process, it’s still been a long 4 year wait for Deftones fans to hear new music. Of course, given the band’s overall quality in their discography, the wait for new music is mitigated, because patience is often rewarded (for the most part). It seems, however, fans won’t have to wait too much longer for new music.
Having already released their debut single “Pieces” a month ago to promising results, hard rock newcomers New Saviors have returned with another new song in the form of “Villain”. Premiered on the Spaceuntravel channel, the new song has already racked up almost 4,000 views in just a few days. If you like what you hear, you can also check out “Pieces” below, if you haven’t yet. Give both songs a listen below.
After teasing it over the weekend, Sumerian Records’ own metal veterans Veil Of Maya have unleashed a new song, “Outsider”. The song, which is notably longer than most of their songs at just over four minutes, displays furious fretwork and an awfully impressive performance by drummer Sam Applebaum, who remains rather underrated. That doesn’t even begin to cover the infectious vocal performance of Lukas Magyar, who’s really coming into his own behind the mic.
While it’s unknown if the new song is off a new record, it seems that it likely is, considering the band was in the studio with producer Taylor Larson (Periphery, Vespera) just last year. Regardless, “Outsider” is a compelling listen, whether it’s a standout standalone single, or something off the band’s upcoming album. Considering the band continues to grow in stature, we can only hope for the latter.
